My short tour of Kunming

I took the plane to go to Kunming on Dec, 6. It’s my dreaming place, though my time is very tight and I can’t stay there for a long time. Unfortunately my flight was delayed again, about 40 minutes.

In the plane I had a nap and read some newspapers. From China Daily I knew that when winter comes, some people suffer from the seasonal affective depress. Experts say when the daytime becomes so short, the darkness makes these people feel moody and depressed. How to cure that? I think maybe keep moving is the best way against that issue. Taking anti-depressed medicine, using artificial lights, getting massage or acupuncture maybe also benefit those patients.

Time went so quickly, I arrived at Kunming at 20:00. Many advertising boards hit my eyesight firstly, they belong to mobile operators, cigarette companies and medicine providers. We drove to the Bank Hotel, one of the 5 star hotel in Kunming. After registering, I take the buffet dinner in 4th floor. In my room, I watched CNN and HBO and had a good night.

In the morning, I attended the technology summit with the topic “ULH plus ASON: the new choice of next generation optical transferring network”. The vice director of Yunnan Broadcasting Bureau addressed the attendance, then the technology discuss began.

I was looking forward to listening these discuss, but I had to finish an important interview. The respondent is general manager of Yunnan information transferring network company, named wangbo.
Wang told me how they restructured the Yunnan broadcasting network branches and why they chose Huawei’s ULH+ASON to reconstruct their networks. He also introduced digital TV and data value-added services strategies. He pointed that telecom operators and them are not completely competitors, they can be the cooperation partners.

After the interview, we went to Xiangyun snack street to have some special snacks. From the waitress, I knew people in Yunnan prefer spicy food, even more than Sichuanese! Yunnanese also like barbeque, hotspot, and wild mushroom. We ordered bean curd, wild mushroom, lotus root cake and guoqiao rice noodle. That’s very delicious!

Now we only had 2 hours to look around the city of Kunming. Firstly we drove to Cuihu(green lake) to watch red-beak seagull, that is a bird of passage. It flies from far Russia. The environment of Cuihu is very beautiful, thousands of red-beak seagulls hovered above. Unfortunately from the local newspaper, I knew that people are afraid of feeding these birds for fear of being infected by bird flu. The newspaper called for more people donating money to help these poor birds.

I found a yellow-colored building near Cuihu, which said it’s the training center of Kuomingdang’s army. It has been turned into a museum displaying the history of Xinhai revolution.

Wusangui is also very best-known Han person in Yunnan in Chinese history. Where is his house? The guild told me the palace of Wusangui is located in Fengming mountain not far from here. We decided to go there and saw the famous golden palace. After 20 minutes, we got to the Mingfeng mountain. The admission fee is 20 RMB per person. Some people persuaded us take the tourist car to the peak, who said it’s very far from the foot to the peak. But the last reality showed they are very wrong.

There are 3 sight spots in Mingfeng mountain. One is the bell tower, there is the largest bell in Yunnan. The second spot is golden palace, the largest copper temple in China. Wusangui built the copper temple to make up for his shortage of gold in China’s traditional Wuxing theory. The golden palace is like a small forbidden city, that indicates he wanted to become a emperor.

My return flight is at 16:50, so we should reach the airport before 16:20. we hurried to the hotel and took my luggage to the airport. But unexpectedly, the traffic of Kunming is too awful, even worse than Beijing’s. Firstly there are too many intersections, that caused the cars have to halt for a long time. Secondly some people didn’t obey the traffic rules. Time went so quickly, we were anxious to see every minute passed heartlessly. Thank the driver very much. I arrived at the airport on time!

During the flight I was shocked by the dangerous activities by some Chinese people. For instance some people turned on their mobile phone while the airplane was still landing. Some people got out of their seats and wanted to open luggage bin while the plane was still taxing. I can’t imagine why there Chinese people are so ugly!

Kunming, spring city? Tourist city? a impressive city?
